Galveston, known as the forgotten gateway, was how many accessed the Republic of Texas and eventually made their way to Fredericksburg from about 1845-1924. Read the story here.

The Gillespie County Historical Society honored two volunteers and local history with a slate of events on a busy weekend. On Friday, the Founders Day Luncheon (combined with the former Lenz Fest event) honored Dr. Paul Phillips III and Susie Bernard with the Pioneer Spirit Award. Both were praised for their work in helping preserve Gillespie County history. Read the story here.
