WHY WAS IT CREATED?

To provide reliable support for operational expenses, which is the key to growth and sustainability for the Society. Guardian funds are unrestricted, meaning they can be put to use in the General Fund for daily expenses, such as paying staff, appropriate upkeep and maintenance of our 13 historic structures and grounds, providing adequate care of our over 60,000 archival and artifact collections, and creating and implementing programs to educate and inspire.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BECOMING A GUARDIAN OF THE LEGACY?

What are the benefits of becoming a Guardian of the Legacy?

Guardians become a part of a select group of donors who demonstrate their understanding of the importance of keeping the Society and its mission’s work strong and vibrant. There are special social events throughout the year for Guardians to gather and celebrate relationships with like-minded individuals and businesses who take pride in preserving the historical legacy of Fredericksburg and Gillespie County. Guardians receive a specially designed sterling silver pin to wear noting their status as a member of this level of support. Guardians also receive early notice of the Society’s special events and membership offers.

WHAT IS GCHS'S CURRENT FINANCIAL CONDITION?

We are proud to say that we are in the best financial condition in decades due to a multi-year focus on sound financial management practices, including annual full audits. We have no debt. Earned income from admissions, tours, Museum Gift Shop sales, and program fees continues to trend upward. Our reputation for professional practices regarding our funds continues to impress our donors and grant providers. Our greatest financial needs are expanded unrestricted funding to create more programming, a Capital Maintenance Fund to care for our historic structures and collections and growing our reserve funds for unexpected challenges.

Although we are proud of the way we have laid a healthy financial foundation in recent years, the fact remains that admissions, programs, and Gift Shop sales will never cover operational costs. The Guardians of the Legacy program was designed and launched to fill this need. Please join us and help secure a bright future for the Society and the Pioneer Museum Fredericksburg.
